The True Gold of Siberia \u2013 Birch Bark Handicrafts<\/h2>\n

What is plastic to us today, birch bark was to people for millennia. Food keeps its aroma and freshness particularly long in vessels made of birch bark.<\/p>\n

Exhibition Shamans \u2013 Hunters and Healers of Siberia<\/h2>\n

Within the exhibition Shamans \u2013 Hunters and Healers of Siberia in Neanderthal Museum Mettmann<\/strong> between D\u00fcsseldorf<\/strong> and Wuppertal<\/strong>Two workshops will be held on 18th May from 10 am to 1 pm (morning workshop) and from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm (afternoon workshop).
\nIn the three-hour workshop<\/strong> Tim Mergelsberg (sagaan) introduces you to the original craftsmanship. Under his guidance, you will create a small birch bark container of your own<\/strong> with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm.<\/p>\n

This workshop is designed for adults and young people, but children are welcome guests and participants!

On the trail of an ancient, valuable raw material: In our workshop, we will get to know a material that has almost been forgotten, which served similarly diverse functions for millennia as we know plastic to do today. Birch bark is one of the most versatile natural materials known to us. Correspondingly unlimited are the possibilities offered by the leather-like, golden-shining protective layer of the birch, which is also called \u00bbbirch leather\u00ab due to its properties.<\/p>\n
